On the left is the finished print of Minkstone pottery, and on the right is the first draft of the next print which will be of another historic Longton pottery, the Albion works next to the railway line. While I was signing and editioning Minkstone and working on the drawing, I was listening to the podcast of the drama Dirty Laundry by Deborah McAndrew, performed by the original cast from it's original run by Claybody Theatre, who are based here in Stoke-on-Trent. It's very topical as it is set at a time when the clean air act was about to come into force, which meant the end of these smoky bottle ovens' working lives and led to the demolition of most of them. It also brought a radical improvement in the health of the locals! It's a great play, very evocative of the times it was set in. Do have a listen!
Ar y chwith mae'r print gorffenedig o grochendy Minkstone, ac ar y dde mae'r tro cynta ar ddylunio un arall o grochendai hanesyddol Longton, sef gweithdai Albion, ger y llinell rheilfford. Tra'r oeddwn i'n arwyddo a rhifo Minkstone, ac yn gweithio ar y dyluniad, roeddwn i'n gwrando ar bodlediad y ddrama Dirty Laundry gan Deborah McAndrew, mewn perfformiad gan aelodau cwmni theatr Claybody yma yn Stoke-on-Trent. Hanes teulu yw e, ar adeg anodd yn niwidiant y crochendai pan oedd y llywodraeth ar fin gosod rheolau llym newydd ar ffatrioedd oedd yn achosi llygredd awyr. Dyma beth achosodd i'r rhan fwyaf o'r hen boteli ffwrn cael eu ddymchwel, wrth i'r cwmniau droi i nwy a thrydan i danio'r ffyrnau newydd. Daeth a gwellhad mawr i iechyd trigolion y ddinas! Mae'n ddrama dda iawn, yn creu teimlad credadwy iawn o'r amseroedd hynny. Rhowch gwrandawiad arni!
