Gladstone Clay
This is a three-stage reduction linocut of Gladstone Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, if you watch the Great Pottery Throwdown, you'll probably recognise the courtyard area of the pottery site. It's a follow-up to the original rectangular format one, and was made as a result of a customer enquiring if it might be possible to make a square version of the pink and orange variation to go with the linocut of Smithfield that she had bought. Challenge accepted! I decided to make an alternative version - up until then I'd been making all bright, primary and secondary colour linocuts of Stoke's bottle ovens and kilns, but when this re-make came about, I decided to do something a little different for the second set, and Gladstone Clay was born out of choosing the earth colours - yellow ochre, burnt sienna and burnt umber. It has been popular, whch surprised me - several of the originals have been sold, and the cards that I have made form it sell well too.
It is one of a limited edition of 10, hand-printed with Caligo Safewash relief ink, on Japanese Ho-Sho paper. The image is approx 10cm x 10cm, and the paper is 19 x 19cm. Each print is hand-inked and hand-printed, so each is slightly different giving them each a unique quality.
