Gladstone Square Pink
A three-stage reduction linocut of Gladstone Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, this square version is an adaption of my original rectangular Gladstone linocut. This version was commissioned by a customer who wanted it in a square format to go alongside the Smithfield Pottery linocut that she had already purchased. I used the original drawing, and discovered that it had a lot more detail than I had used in the first edition - back then I was still feeling my way back into printing, and had less confidence in cutting the lino. It was good to get a bit more definition into the piles of saggars (used for packing the ware for the kilns) under the stairs, and into the stairs themselves.I have a great love for Gladstone Pottery Museum, we live very near to it and are blessed to be able to visit often. I'm very happy to be able to share it with others through these prints!
It is one of a limited edition of 8, hand-printed with Caligo Safewash relief ink, on Japanese Ho-Sho paper. The image is approx 10cm x 10cm, and the paper is 19 x 19cm. Each print is hand-inked and hand-printed, so each is slightly different giving them each a unique quality.
