A linocut of a Victorian pottery factory with two bottle kilns in orange and black

In Limbo

£120.00Price

One of a limited edition of nine hand-cut, hand-printed linocuts from my drawing of the historic former pottery on Commerce Street in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent. The large Victorian factory building contains two bottle ovens, in a formation known as a range. These were used to fire the pottery that was produced in the factory which was owned by the Chetams' family and later H. Aynsley.

This building was part of a much larger complex, most of which is now derelict or demolished, but this building is listed, and will hopefully one day find another use. I have titled it 'In Limbo' as, in its present sate, it is often the target of vandals, but it has enough structural integrity still to be of some use as part of the heritage wealth of Stoke-on-Trent. It lies only a few hundred metres from the famous Gladstone Pottery Museum.

One of my largest linocuts, it is printed on Japanese Ho-Sho paper, using Caligo Safewash Oil-based relief inks. The print area measures 29.5cm wide by 19cm high, and the paper is 39.5cm wide by 28cm high. The linocut will be posted rolled in tissue paper in a cardboard tube.
